  1. No, Roger!!

Been recycling yoghurt pots for years - it's quite clear on the council info - "Plastic containers e.g. yogurt pots, margarine / ice cream tubs fruit / vegetable punnets plastic meat / fish trays cream / custard pots /cake / pastry trays soup / sauce pots egg boxes

    ! Rinse bottles and containers
    ! No black plastic
! No tops, lids, pumps, film, foil etc"

Not much joined up thinking between councils and the recycling world then.
  2. Ah I see, so they own the buildings but not the grounds? In that case, more shame on the council and great PR on the part of HH.

And no, they shouldn't do it again because this stinks of classic association, if people keep doing the job for the council, the council will think they don't need to bother.

Ref BB, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if someone is not providing the service they are paid to do, action needs to be taken

Blimey, this is a struggle - HH don't own the buildings or the land! The Quarry park is owned by the council. The houses around it are private. The grass was cut by HH as a goodwill gesture. That’s it!

As to your last para - Leader Johnson has said publicly that this is the council's doing and not to blame BB. However, as I understand it, we the rate payers have paid for it, so councillors who represent us need to be asking questions of the leadership.

  3. bobby47 - you must know that you can check out but you can never leave!!! You've inspired a whole army of bloggers to get tapping and there are big battles to be fought - we are less than a year from the elections, which must see the present bunch of miscreants dragged out of Brockington Towers and into the Wyeside nettles! The county needs your wit and wisdom to lead this!!

  4. On Thursday of last week, I was sat going nowhere in Blueschool St (westbound) watching workman digging up new paving which I had seen them digging up a couple of weeks previously. In front of me were 8 - count 'em - 8 red lights at the Widemarsh St junction, all new. I wanted to turn right into Widemarsh St - this filter cycled through to green twice whilst I couldn't move. Far from turning the damned things off, somehow we've ended up with even more lights, and, worse, they don't appear to be intelligently controlled.

  5. Yes megilleland well said but let's not forget IOC are also getting some kudos from this little escapade! I'm sorry but am I the only one who sees this as a PR dream for IOC ? They couldn't wait to get those pictures online! When are you people going to wake up and see this is all politically driven! I would have been more impressed if they had cut the grass and kept quiet, but alas no they had to get it online! Look what we've done how wonderful are we? I'm sorry but being a nice guy isn't what wins elections!

    I await the backlash!

Jim posted the picture on his own facebook page. IOC were not mentioned and it is not on their site. I think he's trying to get the message out that things can be changed. It looks to be a good job. As I've said before - take it out of BB's contract and get it done better and cheaper by local labour.

  6. Yes, and the council's record on 'partnerships' is really not that good is it? Ironic that the council slash funding to the arts, and the courtyard, and then decide to hitch a ride on this initiative. No guesses as to who'll be doing all the real work.

  7. And just to add, this could be absolutely brilliant for Hereford......we DO have so very much to offer.

But most definitely NOT with Harry Bramer at the helm!

Easily sorted at the elections next year. By 2021 it is probably safe to say that none of the present incumbents will be around, so they can promise the earth with impunity.

  8. Slightly off topic but still to do with planning matters in the HT this week there is a small notice in the bottom left hand corner of page 26 regarding a proposed PA for 90 houses Hereford side of Clehonger.  The notice is entitled  Public Consultation does this now tick the box for Public Consultation? The notice refers you to visit website - www.your-views.co.uk/clehonger - this link does not work.  I emailed Gladmans (the developers) at lunchtime to say the link does not work and still have not received a reply.  Lovely to see such an efficient company are planning on changing the face of the countryside.  Sorry to put this on this forum but I felt it was worth commenting  on and probably not worth starting a fresh topic.

The link works now. Until the planning department deliver a core strategy with a five year housing plan, developers will continue to make hay whilst the sun shines (and whilst Mr Ashcroft stays at his post).

  9. Traffic was diabolical today. Took me 30 minutes to get from Bath St to the bottom of Widemarsh St from 5.30-6pm. I've never seen northbound Widemarsh St log jammed before. Perhaps being able to turn right into it from Blueschool Street is increasing the load, but those clever traffic engineers would have modelled that scenario ... wouldn't they?

  10. Are Parish Council's tied into the Council's contractor in the same way as the Council are? Surely not, and if not, were tenders sought for this work from other contractors, as I've no doubt that half a dozen reputable local firms could have done it better and cheaper (and would have still been around to deal with outstanding/defective items).

  11.

William Pulling and Co were important Cider Merchants and Gin Distillers in Hereford from 1813 to1979.  When the business was sold in the early 1980s they left 150 years of invoices, letters, bank books and ledgers.  Some were thrown out, but a large number survive.  These are currently being catalogued by volunteers in the Cider Museum.  They include good records for the 1820s, 1840s to 1860s, the 1890s and 1920s.

Societies which Mr Pulling was associated with:
Herefordshire and District Working Boys Home (1887, 1888)

William Pulling began as a cider merchant and extended his interests into river transport, the bark and slate trade and finally, into one of the biggest drinks trades in the region.  He began making gin in 1813 and continued until 1939, using the same stills but different recipes, finally developing the Hereford Dry Gin brand.

Come as see how gin was made in Hereford
The Pulling Exhibition is running April 23rd to end of October 2014.

There was a bonded warehouse in East Street, opposite the Methodist Church, that was converted into terraced houses in the 1980's and is called 'Pulling's Mews'. I assume that this was originally owned by Pulling - some of the documents in the link refer to a bonded warehouse in the vicinity of St Owen's Street.

  12. Councillors were summoned to Brockington a few weeks ago and those who turned up were told by BB that they were going to cut the grass areas three times a year instead of seven with the exception of areas for sport.

How about Councillors summon Balfour Beatty and tell them what to do? Something seriously wrong with priorities here. As megilleland says - too much tail wagging the dog. Goodness knows Amey were bad enough and how on earth have we got into a deal that is even worse?

  13. I have learnt that apparently this is not an option because the. Library is a Listed Building and the Council are prevented from carrying out the required work

It's a grade 2 listed building which means the interior can be changed but not the exterior. The phone box next to Orange tree is also grade 2 listed  :Happy_32:

No, the interior is protected as well. However, that does no preclude it being altered.

As for Internet customer 'services' - if anyone has seen how badly they run their facebook page, it will be worse than useless. Perhaps that is the idea. As we've mooted, we're on the tipping point of asking why do need/pay for a council when they do so little.

  14. Given that the council are now indicating that the present fire station will be used as university accommodation, the land swap makes even less sense. The Bath Street site is twice the size, and much less constrained, thus twice as many flats or whatever for the university, without all the legal and other costs. It doesn't make sense. But then, very little of Hereford Future's legacy does.

  15. You have to ask yourselves this one single question. Given the limited areas of business the Council now are involved in, why on earth do we sit back and pay the Council Tax?

Surely it must be time to ask why on earth do we need Herefordshire Council? With service levels plummeting or being removed altogether, yet the year on year charge increasing, we are rapidly reaching the point where we have to say enough is enough! Either we need a different business model ie merge with South Shropshire or Worcestershire, or Hereford City becomes a District Council as it was before or something else. Obviously, all the suits would love this - this is after all their sole reason for being - to reorganise, but something must be done. Nobody, as far as I am aware, asked for a Unitary authority - it was foisted on us in 1998 by a labour government, although it was originated under the tories. Something's gotta change!
