  1. This is a bit of a shock, what a shame after 35 years too. Do we know how many people work there?

Such a shame, I loved Mothercare. When my children were little I did all my shopping there.

Are cafe Nero re-locating or opening another store. Either way not good for Hereford as there are too many coffee shops and too many empty shops. I'm sure there will be a charity shop waiting to take over the premises.

  2. AV this accident could have happened on any one of the routes into Hereford so shouldn't be used to substantiate the argument for a West bypass.

Don't knock market day what many people do not know is for every sheep that passes through the market HC pick up I think 10p per sheep. Some  days there can be as many as 12000  so work it out for yourself a nice little earner.

Absolutely true Denise. Accidents can happen anywhere and at any time (unfortunately). If we had an Eastern  bypass no doubt only half the traffic would have been  on that road today and the traffic into Hereford would have flowed much quicker. BUT if they build all these houses on good agricultural land we will probably need another river bridge crossing to accommodate all the extra vehicles.People moan about being stuck in traffic maybe they should start getting their heads together and moaning about the proposed housing when they can look forward to a water shortage and hose pipe ban in the summer. How are they going to supply all these people with drinking water - I know, as the leader of HC said at a recent meeting I attended "they manage in Dubai"

  3. We met with council officials today and a representative from PB.  We asked if they could move the road over and were told this is not possible as it has to be a certain standard to be adopted by the highways.

This link road from the A465 to B4349 was an add on road and suggested because the junction at the lousey oak is potentialy dangerous for vehicles turning right.  Surely it would have been more cost effective and less disruptive to improve this junction - maybe a roundabout here. Have this council not got any brains or are they just acting Thick!!!

  4. So while everyone is busy concentrating on other things like elections, this major Hereford-changing plan is being pushed forward?

As others have said, this road could not be cost-effective, as all it does is to improve a little on the existing rat-run between the Abergavenny and Ross roads.

And it would inevitably open up lots of new land for housing development, as part of all the "developer-led urban extensions" that have been mentioned in passing, plans to expand the boundaries and make Hereford city much bigger.

Without support for cycling, etc., that means lots more people in lots more cars, all wanting to travel predominantly IN AND OUT of central Hereford for shops, work, hospital, cinema, etc. Surely all major plans like this should be put on hold until a new administration is in place?

And don't forget, Jean has discovered she would lose her garden and trees, and presumably some other people who own land in the way of the route will be badly affected too.

  5. Discovered today that the plans for SLR are being submitted this month before the election. Plans will go before the planning committee in June. Don't miss your chance to object to this ridiculous road with no purpose at all. Ok if you want to go to Rotherwas or sit in the traffic on A49. How is it democratic when 7 councillors (cabinet) can make a decision on a route. Scrap the cabinet I say!!!

  6. Hi Jean, I and Its Our County are totally against the southern relief road as it is another of this councils roads to nowhere and also comes with strings attached like houses, I would love to meet you In person and don't worry I don't look like my picture I just can't upload one of myself as they are to large apparently, if you would like to email me at James.Stokes@itsourcounty.org then we can set up a meeting and talk more about your concerns.

  7. I'm standing in stoney street for IOC

Can I ask you for your support in campaining against the link road from the B4349 to A465 which was suggested by our current Ward councillor and is now going through my garden.  It also means the destruction of 3 ancient oak trees. HC and PB will not consider moving the road. Hopefully enough IOC candidates will be on HC after May and will look more sympathetically on the need for this road to nowhere.  People need to be made aware, that although they may not be directly affected, would they like to see hundreds of houses built on this beautiful landscape, It would be nice to meet you. I was wondering if you might be at the Parish Council meeting on Thursday 23rd April. The conservative candiate for Stoney Street was at the last meeting.

  8. Hi Dippyhippy,

It does indeed.  I cannot believe how many people are totally opposed to this SLR.  Let's hope a more balanced council will put it right once and for all.  The Council are absolutely bluffing their way around this and are making so many mistakes in the bargain.  PB are a bunch of very inexperienced consultants.  They even claimed that part of my land belonged to the farmer. I had to prove this with title deeds and land registery maps. They use out of date OS maps to select a suitable route and then look into how it effects land owners and necessary acquisition.  Sounds backwards to me - again wasting tax payers money. I could go on for ever on this subject as I am personally affected by it BIG TIME!!!!

  9. What a load of D...k Heads we have on this council( or maybe not more like mushroom management....). When the Ward councillor for Stoney Street and the Chair of the PC suggest building a link road from the A465 to the B4349 as the junction at the B4349 joining the A465 would be dangerous for lorries turning right and accessing the proposed new roundabout on the A465 leading to . How ridiculous is that. To spend all of our money on building this road, CPO on land and property owners, destruction of 3 ancient oak trees 500+ years old, when Infact all they need to do is improve the junction, maybe a roundabout. If it gets that far the roundabout will have to be modified again to include another road for a river crossing. No wonder HC is strapped for cash.

  10. Hi, Please do you have a link for Hereford Tree Forum. I have contacted so many groups and indivuals. Some have got back to me and offered good advise. I applied to HC with the help of the tree warden from Clehonger Parish Council to get a TPO on these beautiful ancient oak trees. As expected they turned down the application due to the proposed planning application for the SLR. These plans have not yet been submitted and hopefully with a new council WILL NOT in their present form, which is hideous, At this moment in time these trees are very much at risk and should be considered for a TPO.. It seems that some communities along the proposed route are arguing about where the route should go rather than pooling resources to oppose the whole idea. Of course we are aware that this proposed scheme has less to do with transport but rather to do with the Councils plan to dramatically increase the size of Hereford by selling planning permission on a huge scale to volume builders.

  11. How can they justify spending - or borrowing - £25-million on our behalf (without asking us if we thought it was a good idea), to construct an 800-metre road that goes nowhere!

I really don';t think the council know what they are doing.  I discovered that the link road from the A465 to the B4349 (which was an add on to the stand alone road) is going through the bottom of my garden.  The council and Parsons Brinkerhoff did not even realise this was my garden and although there are 4 acres of meadow next to it they are not prepared to move the road over. They say it is because of the curvature of the road and that it has to meet with highway standards. In the bargain they are also destroying 3 ancient oak trees. I cannot see any reference in the SWTP to ecological reports being carried out on these trees which were once part of the ancient woodland.

The road really has no purpose and is an absolute waste of rate payers money. They cannot look after the roads we already have. If it was going to serve a purpose I wouldn't mind, we really need a river crossing and a road to the A4103..  I know there are a lot of councilllors who feel the same way as I do so let's hope and vote for the ones that really care for Hereford..
