  1. I'm one of those dumb knights who parks his stead only to realize that he does not have the correct change paying over the odds once again for his bit of turf. I kick myself and the horse every time but I'm not bothered ...but this will change particularly if the money is reinvested into crazy projects such as the suggested grief road....sorry southern relief road.

  2. Well I guess someone has to try and in the end it will come down to commerce as SF states. Brighton is a fantastic example of eating out late and not just a kebab either. The trouble is that Hereford just isn't Brighton. I love the ideal of leaving a club or casino with friends and finding an Italian restaurant but again Hereford isn't quite there yet. It's currently under 30's looking for quick food and a taxi. That said it's worth a punt surely but would I be ready to invest...me Dragon says no!!

  3. None of the routes proposed for the Southern Link Road can avoid ancient Grafton Wood because it is so close to the obvious exit going west from the A49, at the roundabout that was built specifically for the road to Rotherwas.

The Council tell us they will plant new trees, etc. but they are missing the point.  It is not just trees they will be damaging, it is the whole ecosystem. That includes all the insects and microscopic organisms that depend on one another and have built up their numbers over the centuries. Some of these don’t exist outside ancient woodland, and so they are very vulnerable to extinction. Once ancient woodland is removed it cannot be reinstated because it is very complex and takes centuries to develop.

For these reasons the Woodland Trust currently have a national campaign to save ALL remaining ancient woodland, and we can all sign up to a message directly to David Cameron.

Thanks for the heads up on The Woodland Trust campaign Cloudberry.

My signature of support is in.

  4. It is a sad reality that the comments made above all carry a ring of truth. It is no secret that one lady tamed the unions. Once the blackened faces left the picket lines and eventually their jobs we moved into a period of change where all the colours of the different standards changed in pursuit of the middle ground and sadly that is where the unions nestle today playing political pontoon holding onto a few decent cards though even their control over the Labour Party is waining. To be honest who is the Labour Party now. The Unions survive on membership but even the working class lad or exhausted healthcare worker knows that the best he/she can hope for is a little free employment advice now and then. You cannot tell the difference between the political grey suits or the union grey suits only perhaps their choice of words separates them. Both groups claim to carry the voices of the people but to be honest they carry nothing because they have chewed away the spirit of what was. Perhaps they dream of Scargill and Thatcher .....We could choose a side then but now it's all the same. Everyone's a manager in an appropriate suit.

The Councillor is correct as is Dippy in that this is a small county where everyone knows everyone and everyone has an agenda. This breathes fear and suspicion which results in forelock syndrome. Is there a treatment for it..Well yes there is. The minority who have the right ideals need to wake the silent majority and clear their minds of the sludge that is thrown at them on a daily basis because if it's got a political taste then it's tainted.

If the Unions want to halt their demise they must reinvent themselves to all classes rather than take the easy option and back slap what they see is an old friend. Unfortunately that old friend died some years ago ...some spiv wears the jacket now and I simply can't tell you what his name is.

  5. Well it got sent back to cabinet..what does that mean...Well bloody zip..no s..t sherlock. They cabinet is very happy with its process..Well we know that. Should this disaster go ahead without another bridge over the river kwye then it's time to start another flipping crusade...and I've been on a few of them. This is nonsense they reckon it would be complete by 2018.... can anyone guess what the road will be like through town by then?

  6. Got mine - it’s a lovely piece of A3 card, beautifully printed on both sides, urging me to choose how i move and assuring me it was funded by the Dept for Transport. My very own personal travel planner. It even has a hole punched in it to hang it on a rusty nail.

Lets see, the Admag has a circulation of about 48000, x say 10p for calendar each = £4800. Lets see what b47's contact says is the real cost.

Sorry, dippy - no pictures,  no patricia, no olm, just blandsville. Nothing is more reliable than the council's ability to waste our money.

Actually TWG does it already have dates in it where planning approval has already been granted for housing developments we don't know about yet ....say for the south west of the city where they want this new road to go??

  7. Please Bobby don't bludgeon the fruit fork ....you should be getting a free pen as well so use that ...I guess they are going to deliver them separately after all you will need to tick off the days leading up to May! The thing probably won't work so option two is to apply as a trocar and go for a d.I.y tracheostomy that way if you can't lambast them at the door you can cough over them when you vent your frustration. Just a thought mate.

  8. If this is true billbobobby it shows without doubt how inadequate our council is. So next it will be bootleg spirits under a brand name, The County Emergency Department filling up with kids admitted with alcohol poisoning, police wasting precious resources dealing with this outfit etc, etc.

However I have a feeling that the intelligence agencies have an interest in this crew so perhaps a little extra rope has been provided!!!

  9. Well people's I have a mad plan. I think Bobby47 needs to start showing an interest in birds! Perhaps we could all have a little dovecote stashed away at the back end of the lean to. Why not resurrect the quil and scribe after all quite often in the old dark days of tyranny this is often how we passed our messages around and as these dark days appear set to return...Think about it. Truth is without power most comms would be lost anyway so we need an edge. Ok so the Sparrow hawk population has increased as has the Peregrine so there would be casualties. Ah ...sorry chaps gotta dash there's a drone hovering outside having flown through the bloody gates. Laters..hopefully

  10. Perhaps Megilleland.

We must return to the true values of democracy which ultimately has to win over because the alternatives make the future lives of our children unimaginable. We must believe that it can be done because only a free democratic institution gains a pass for life void of fear and insecurity.

Current extreme religious ideology appeals to those with little hope and why not when we currently sit within a supposed democratic system where all kinds of abuses take place. I'm not just talking the obvious which gains headlines and fills are heads with anger. No I'm talking about the other abuses of power and position which we have seen from bankers, politicians of all persuasions and anyone who feels that their position gives them cart blanche to do what they like! ...actually this also fills me with anger!!

The first steps are the hardest trodden by a few brave pioneers who are prepared to be ridiculed by the old guard however WE the silent need to stand by these souls. I personally would like to see this council absent of the old political groups and their seats filled with individuals whose only function is to represent the people of this county ... and they must listen to their voices. These voices however need to be heard because the future alternatives might be....... not to have a voice at all!

  11. Well Paul you may get your way and a freight terminal to boot.I'm hearing noises from good old London Town that the rail companies are changing focus from passengers to freight where it seems that there is more money to be had. The problem is that they need to find away round the commuter network so that's where our north/south line comes in handy after all I think the Manchester/Cardiff train is hourly and our Arriva Trains service has only a couple of coaches so what of it if a few commuters get held up when a freight train gets priority. After all they could use this line throughout the night for most of the route is pretty rural. I would watch this one as I think it could become very topical.

  12. Even if someone came up with the excuse that this road is in fact part of a plan to build a ring road in stages then I would say fine ...but let's have one of the other hypothetical segments first... say the sections on the east side as previously discussed. The people sanctioning this proposal cannot be vehicle/HGV owners..you simply would have no reason to use this road unless of course you tapped on a bridge over the Wye. Oh and let's also plough through ancient woodland for no reason. Heh you IOC crew.. let's see you gauging opinion in the town centre or our local hauliers and big business movers. Given the choice I am sure they would prefer quicker ways round the city rather than a road that leads to a dead end but gives the nod to thousands of new homes because this is what it's about ......deception,greed and filling someone else's pockets. Please don't sell me the idea of road construction creating jobs as most of these skills are bussed in using outside labour. I would also like to here the views of other Hereford Knights of the Road like Messrs Kingspan,A.B.E,Burgoynes,and of course our local cider boys. Can you people's see any benefits here?

  13. Just a few weeks ago we were still in times of austerity yet with an election coming it's all over.... with promises of 2 billion here and three billion there yet the deficit is getting worse. A politician is a politician whether that be at national or local level. " I'm in it for me" we here them whisper during another not so pubic meeting. The thing is where will they hide when it all goes Pete Tong. Money does not make you safe nor does sitting in a gated property far away in the hills. Brussels faceless beurocrats are no different to any of our national political suits......just taking what's not theirs and running into the crowd then lost with money and pension to squander on what remains of their grubby little lives. It is of no surprise that nationalism feeds on the disaffected. Could the kettle finally boil over...can we assume that " it could never happen in Blighty". I'd like to think not however we are building the stage and though it might not be set just yet things might change once this election is over and the next government realises that it will have to bring back taxes for the lower paid just to prop up those missing tax receipts.

  14. Yes, the Millau Viaduct is one of the world's greatest structures - designed by a UK architect, Norman Foster. At 343m high it would be overkill for the Lugg Flats, which needs only to be perhaps 10m above the ground level, but nonetheless, its entirely doable and something to be proud of -after all, we are told 'Here we can', albeit by the departed Jarvis. Far better a fine piece of architecture, or art even, sweeping through the countryside, than a bog standard strip of tarmac flanked by thousands of identi-boxes thrown up to pay for it.

Interesting that the Millau is a toll bridge with a 75 year pay back - 7 Euro's to cross - so there's an idea - make it a toll bridge to pay for it - with perhaps a reduced rate for locals, using automatic number plate recognition for registered users so they don't have to stop.

Well this is great ...it's still ticking the boxes ( I made a similar comment about the toll solution in the HT a few weeks back).....this should be our solution and if it has to be one let it be East. I might even be able to view it from my Tupsley window.!!! IOC are you reading this 2015 and all that!
