  1. The scheme has now been scrapped by Highways England.

spokesman for Highways England, which is responsible for maintaining the A49, said: "We were considering a number of options which had included a visibility fence. This is not something we’ll be taking forward but we are looking at signage and lining on the road to further improve safety in future."

Yes, never thought for one minute this idea would get off the ground. This was a petition and uproar waiting to happen.

  2. I am very frustrated today, some vile idiot has removed the donated duck feeding advice sign from the wall at the duck pond and thrown it into the pond.

    Duck Pond Sign.jpg

I am also quite concerned as there are a several large dead fish both in the water and one on the side near to where the bamboo is located. (not sure what fish these are?) Possibly eaten and killed by Otters

The pond is fairly shallow and clear and I spotted a number of big fish swimming around which has confirmed to me there are plenty of fish in the water however, I do have concerns over what has caused these others to die.

I still have additional signs at home and it looks like we will have to house tase in a enclosed notice board. I am aware that there are a few scattered about the city no longer being used that we may be able to use going forward.

There is also still a lot of discarded rubbish, can and signs still in the water which needs removing, so another clean up will be required once the weather improves, I will advise a mutually agreed date in the coming months. In the meantime have a look at the photographs that I took today.
  3. Bob Curry was a national hero and risked his life many times.

    Bob Curry.jpg

Unfortunately, his business only collapsed in November due to MOD cutbacks he lost his security contract!

He has run this fairly stable business since the late 80's so hardly his fault.

The man had to sell his medals for 20k in an attempt to keep his business going but unfortunately that money also ran out.

His marriage has now ended and the man has hit hard times (which could happen to any of us). Ironically, the only serviving terrorist from the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980 Fowzi Nejad is still believed to be living in London rent-free - while SAS hero Bob Curry struggles to find a home!

This man and his colleagues should be knighted or at least recognised with some honour just for what they all did on that day in 1980 and this is not taking into account the rest of their service history!

    Bob Curry is circled below.

This is disgusting it really is, if you agree please sign the petition here

  4. Has anyone else noticed how the traffic is in turmoil at the lights by KFC heading towards Aylestone Hill , when the road opened it was arrowed in a way that the l/h lane led traffic left to Morrisons or the new road . People were in a pickle due to signage confusing , now it has changed and it seems to be a free for all , it doesn't make sense . I did speak about it before but since it has changed it just doesn't make sense ??

Yes but I also think some people do not know how to drive, both lanes filter into one and you give way to the vehicle in front regardless of which lane.

  5. I read the same post on Facebook and responded to (Andrew Wood but I notice today he has removed me as a friend) it but Colin James mentioned this back in the pothole thread in 2013 http://www.herefordvoice.co.uk/topic/988-go-careful-pot-holes/?hl=%2Bpot+%2Bholes

This has been on the cards for years but I never really highlighted it because it was not planned until 2019 and now I read it could even be 2020 however, maybe a new topic is required, I will take some photographs and create a topic and possible petition in an attempt to prevent a wall being erected.

  6. Well, according to my sources, and granted I have to get them blind drunk first before they tell me what they know, the notion that the lad acted solely on impulse because of mental health issues could be a little misleading.

Elements of premeditation, namely the earlier purchase of a knife and a rope from a City Store before the criminal act was carried out suggest some thought or planning went into this terrible event. The rope? To hang the family cat!

Like you say Bob it should like he had this planned and knew exactly what he was doing.

  7. Thousands of new homes and hundreds of jobs to be delivered in the county over the next ten years

Herefordshire Council has formally appointed Keepmoat Ltd as their partner developer to deliver ambitious housing and growth plans for Hereford City and the wider county.
The agreement, which will span over a ten year period, will see Keepmoat developing sites along the City Link Road, and sites in the market towns over the next two years, with further development planned over further years.

The Keepmoat Ltd bid was submitted in conjunction with a number of partner organisations including Keepmoat Regeneration Engie, WMs Housing, Herefordshire Housing Ltd and City Heart.

Councillor Harry Bramer, cabinet member contracts and assets said:

“The partnership will go much further than the delivery of new homes. It will also promote economic growth across the county through a number of initiatives including developing a strong local supply chain with at least 50 percent of suppliers and contractors coming from within Herefordshire.

The council will also retain its ability to raise capital from the council’s land holdings, whilst controlling the nature, speed and character of the county’s development.

Keepmoat will provide support for local businesses, third sector groups and the community as well as improving skills and educational attainment through training and apprenticeships. This, in turn will enable the development of new economic activity to address the problem of low wages in the county.”

Peter Hindley, CEO of Keepmoat Homes, added:

“We’re excited at the prospect of working with Herefordshire Council over the next 10 years, or more, to deliver much needed high quality new homes across the county.

We are also committed to a significant Community Investment programme, including sourcing local talent and creating opportunities for employment and training for local people.

This is a perfect example of how our business model of working in close partnership with local authorities, housing associations and other delivery partners can accelerate home building and improve local communities.”

The partnership is to launch a programme of wider regeneration initiatives in March 2018 with the first new homes expected to be delivered early in summer 2019.
  8. We have reports this morning of an overnight burglary at Tesco Bewell Street.

Parts of the store and underpass is corded off.

    Tesco Hereford.jpg

It appears that the cigarette kiosk was the target as it was ransacked during the burglary.

We understand that the store was closed for a short period first thing but is fully open now.

    We will post updates later.
  9. Government will not be bailing them out and I don't think that the tax payer should foot the costs for their poor administration. I deal with Carrilion on a business level and they are a nightmare to deal with!

There are guarantees for projects in place, so the ongoing projects should be divided between all the other partners and any other company who is able to quote and fulfil the contracts.

  10. West Mercia Police are appealing for witnesses after a 17 year old boy riding a Yamaha motorcycle was involved in a collision with silver Toyota Landcruiser around 2.30pm on the A49 close to Dinmore Hill.

Sadly, the 17 year old boy was pronounced dead shortly after the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 339S of 11 January.
