  1. Glad they someone has listened to our complaints about our Historic City Walls, and now this clean up group is cleaning the railings along the Belmont Road and while this is a fantastic group doing brilliant things in out city, I do think we need to look at 'prevention rather than cure'.

  2. Healthwatch Herefordshire – the local health champion for health and social care has launched a new online engagement tool called The Feedback Centre, created by Midlands based software specialist Ekko, to help people in Herefordshire share their experiences about local health and care services.

    HWH.thumb.png.8e1048d3fef8d3a29dd8575f37dc2532.png

Healthwatch Herefordshire’s job is to ensure that the voice of patients, carers and service users is at the heart of improving health and social care services. Healthwatch gathers the views of the public views and represents those views to local organisations and makes sure they are taken account of.

The new online Feedback Centre will strengthen the voice of people in Herefordshire. It is accessible on a variety of devices including mobile phones, desktop PCs and tablets, just by going to the Healthwatch Herefordshire website. People will be able to easily rate and share experiences of services in an engaging and simple way from wherever they are and receive responses from providers.
Healthwatch Herefordshire believes that by helping patients and service users to easily express their views we can gather more feedback to improve health and social care services.

Christine Price, Chief Officer of Healthwatch Herefordshire, said: ‘The Feedback Centre tool will support our engagement plans. We have much to be proud of with the health and social care services of Herefordshire that people use every day, we should recognise and celebrate this. But sometimes things go wrong and need improving, so the voice of our community must be heard to help get things right.’

‘Healthwatch Herefordshire’s aim is to make sure that the
patient voice comes through loud and clear to the professionals who plan and deliver our local health and social care services. That is why we have developed a simple yet powerful system that is accessible to the widest possible group of people from wherever they are.’
‘Millions of people every day use online review systems to give their opinion about other services or products they have bought or used. We want to harness that behaviour to get patients, service

users and their families to give us vital information about the health and social care. As an independent organisation, Healthwatch Herefordshire hopes to gain the trust of the public to tell us their full experiences of local services: the excellent and the good, as well as where things need to improve. We hope that by creating a familiar tool that we will be able to engage many more people in celebrating and improving health and social care here in Herefordshire.’

All reviews are vetted before appearing online to ensure an honest representation of each service provider is given, and service providers can submit a response to each review if they wish.

Healthwatch will work with health and social care providers to create a transparent online forum and culture of using customer feedback to improve services and celebrate good services. It is hoped providers will also signpost patients to the feedback centre and post the feedback centre widget on their websites, to encourage openness and transparency.

Healthwatch will distribute a freepost card feedback options to local services over the coming weeks for those people who aren’t able to access online. We will continue to offer our service on the telephone, social media, visiting groups around the county and go to events where we can talk to people face to face and listen to their views.

I thoroughly agree with Colin on this topic. I have never been able to understand why HC has turned a blind eye to all the adverts on the back of that stand. Many people I know who drive through Hereford along Edgar Street have commented that they are an eyesore. They should ALL come down and the back of the stand should be painted matt grey of something similar to make it disappear visually.

And on the subject of Edgar Street eyesores, does anyone else feel sorry for the folk living opposite that dreadful slatted vertical wooden fencing which was intended to 'mask' the Old Market's multi-storey car park? By the present look of it, the contractors barely gave it a lick of wood preservative when it was erected!

I never really understood WHY the Herdsman's planning application for a nice new sign on their wall was refused yet all of this lot is acceptable...

  4. Just came across this article on BBC Hereford and Worcester again, so grabbed a screenshot.

We noticed only the other day that these signs have not been cleaned since and some of the ones featured above will need a clean again, we have identified quite a few locally that need cleaning so that is another project we will be working on over the coming weeks.

Please posts you pictures if you manage to clean any signs.

I have just seen this refusal for advertising at Hfc.

THE COUNTY OF HEREFORDSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL hereby gives notice in pursuance of the above Act and Regulations that CONSENT has been REFUSED for the display of the advertisements described above for the following reasons: 1 The proposed location of the hoardings next to a busy section of road, which also features signalised junctions and pedestrian crossing points, is considered inappropriate owing to the potential for advertisements to distract driver's attention. The proposals would therefore have a detrimental impact on highway safety and are thus contrary to Policy MT1 of the Herefordshire Local Plan and Section 7 of the NPPF.

So how come it was OK for the advertising on Newmarket roundabout ?

Well I was going to run a topic on this, I took a load of photographs only last week showing the amount of adverts on the Len Weston stand backing onto Edgar St, I am surprised that nobody has complained.

  6. A market of international traders selling top quality artisan-produced foods and craft products from around the world will visit Hereford in April.

Flavours of the World, made up of 20-30 carefully selected stalls, will be in Hereford High Town, Friday 27 – Sunday 29 April, 9am – 5.30pm.

Touring different themed markets in the UK annually for over a decade, Savoir Fayre’s latest market, Flavours of the World is crafted to stir the senses and appeal to locals and tourists alike. The organisers have worked hard to create an international atmosphere so people can enjoy exotic flavours and unusual aromas and delight in products they might not otherwise see or buy every day.

    nino_photo2.jpg.39d14e6e97820d1672f873a078dd20ec.jpg

The range for Hereford includes stalls selling Italian sweets and biscuits and delicate nougats; unusual cheeses not easily found in the UK which reflect the cultural and culinary traditions of rural France, and a stall which sells cured meats and scrumptious rustic saucisson sourced from every corner of Europe. There are also specialist stalls offering an unrivalled choice of ground coffee and mustards.

Beyond the stalls that tempt the taste buds, the market has traders who showcase the beauty of international craft traditions. They include bowls and ornaments carved from Moroccan marble; Baltic amber set into handcrafted jewellery; finely woven Italian clothing; and rugs and throws from Morocco and Turkey. One stall sells an astonishing 60 varieties of beauty bars and natural soaps derived from olive and argan oil.

Councillor Barry Durkin, Herefordshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport and Regulatory Services, said:

    Quote

“We are delighted to welcome back a continental market to Hereford High Town. The wonderful range of artisanal foods and beautiful crafted items is great news for the vibrancy and diversity of Hereford.”

  7. Herefordshire Council has completed the lease of Edgar Street stadium to Hereford FC. The ten year lease will secure the club’s tenancy at the Edgar Street stadium until 2030, enabling the club to proceed with plans to return the ground to a four-sided stadium.

The wider area has undergone substantial redevelopment in the last four years, with the opening of the Old Market shopping development in 2014 and the construction of the City Link Road in 2017. The proposed ‘Urban Village’ project, part of the Hereford 2020 Edgar Street regeneration, could potentially mean joint investment from Herefordshire Council and Hereford FC for a new stand and facilities at the Blackfriars Street side of the stadium, with the opportunity for nearby retail outlets.

Councillor Harry Bramer, Herefordshire Council Cabinet Member for Contracts and Assets, said:

    Quote

“The security of the club’s tenancy until 2030 is a real boost for the club and for the fans. Herefordshire Council is looking forward to working with Hereford FC to build on this year’s league success by planning and investing in the stadium - potentially transforming the Edgar Street area and providing new opportunities for retailers.

“Hereford FC continues to make a great contribution to the city and the wider community. Many local traders benefit from increased trade on match days and the football club is an important employer and contributor to the local economy.”

Hereford FC Chairman Ken Kinnersley said:

    Quote

“The lease extension now means we have security until the summer of 2030, which will justify continued investment in the stadium by the club and, hopefully, set at ease any concerns about security being felt by any of our supporters.

“The directors believe the lease extension is a clear endorsement by Herefordshire Council of the commercial stimulation every match day at Edgar Street brings to the city centre and that officers feel that the club is being managed both effectively and efficiently as a business.”

“On behalf of Hereford FC, I would like to express sincere thanks to Herefordshire Council for their support and co-operation and the positive working relationship that has been built since the original lease was agreed back in 2015.”

  8. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN YOUR CAR!!

    DogInHotCars.thumb.jpg.dd77b43a0ae66d43b76be33a6686eaad.jpg

Now that the weather is getting hotter, we'd like to remind people not to leave dogs in cars, even 'just 5 minutes' can be fatal.

When the temperature is 20 degrees outside, in just 10 minutes the inside of a car can reach 27 degrees and can get to an unbearable 47 degrees within the hour.

Leaving the windows open and parking in the shade will not stop a dog overheating and it can take just a few minutes for a dog to die of heat stroke.

  9. The business is owned by a Kurdish man who has changed his name by deed poll as he felt persecuted as a Christian. (Nothing to do with the 3 years he got for people smuggling - matter of public record and disclosed as part of police case for their review)

Mr Dean Russel as he is now know was sentenced to a 12 month community order and 120hrs unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of approx £1500.

  10. New measures to curb dog fouling and prevent problems with out of control dogs across Herefordshire came into force on 27 March 2018.
    dog_poo.jpg.27beeb54b990bc63b15a2dd8fb885364.jpg

The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog control, which has replaced the previous dog control orders, gives council enforcement officers and police officers powers to deal with dog owners who fail to properly control or clean up after their dogs in public open spaces.

Measures include offences requiring dog owners and walkers to:

    • Clear up after their dog

    • Keep their dog on a lead in some areas

    • Put their dog on a lead when asked to

    • Keep dogs out of some areas

People with assistance dogs are exempt from this PSPO.

Responses received during a consultation period last year show support for the rules contained in the order.

Councillor Durkin, Cabinet Member for Transport and Regulatory Services, said:

    Quote

“The majority of dog owners are responsible and keep their dogs under control and clean up after them, this order will allow action to be taken against the minority who do not’’.

Herefordshire Council asks members of the public to report incidents of dog fouling via the link so that appropriate action can be taken.

  12. We have spoken with the store this morning and they are pleased that we have highlighted this issue and we have been reliably informed that Halfords have received quotes for up to £12,000 and are more than happy to pay to have a secure compound for their rubbish but the landlords of the Spur Retail Park are refusing to allow them.

So in fairness to Halfords they have their hands tied here, although in the absence of a secure compound, Halfords Hereford are still responsible for the rubbish that is being blown across the neighbouring area and roads, this must be a priority.

  13. This is Halfords rubbish on the Spur Retail Park that has AGAIN blown all across the car park and onto Perseverance Road.

    5abf457cc82af_HalfordsRubbish.thumb.jpg.1b9ed9ea9ae9f6013bcfc88ac4dd787b.jpg

There is one odd cage which is open with cardboard in from Hobby Craft next door but 99% of this rubbish belongs to Halfords. We have seen this many times and nothing is ever done about it.

Halfords really do need to be aware of their surrounding area and neighbours and secure their waste cardboard and rubbish more securely in a compound.

We are aware that environmental services have spoken with them in the past but this is the total mess evident again today.

The Hereford Community Clean Up Group only cleaned around this area a few weeks ago, come on Halfords you can do better than this! You have a responsibility to keep your immediate surrounding area clean, we will speak with the store manager today and highlight this issue.

  14. Old Hereford Pics Closes Website

We are very sad to learn that Old Hereford Pics website has now come to an end.

We have contributed many times and enjoyed all the wonderful photographs over the past 10 years, so thank you Chris for all of your hard work, we know all too well how difficult and time consuming running a busy website is and we appreciate all your hard work.

We would like to wish our good friend Chris Adcocks good luck for the future.

Here is the statement from Chris:

    Quote

"Well as people say, all things must come to a end. Its been nearly 10 years since I had the idea of finding and posting old Hereford pictures. I must say I've enjoyed it for the biggest part and it has taken a lot of hours out of mine and my family's time over the years. So its time to call it a day and let the other excellent pages now available to have their turn. I must thank everyone who has contributed over the years and I must say I have made some lovely friends along the way. It has taken a while to come to this decision and due to family commitments and not having the hours to keep it up, that's me done. The page will remain for people to view, but I would like to kindly ask that people please now use the other great pages out there to post in future. A very big thank you from me to everybody that has helped over the years.

    Chris Adcocks"

  15. Commercial Street Hereford to undergo refurbishment in May.
    Commercial_Street_2.jpg.67392a11775a94342bbbf53af116f472.jpg

The second phase of work to upgrade Hereford City Centre will begin in May 2018 with the refurbishment of Commercial Street, High Town.

Balfour Beatty Living Places on behalf of Herefordshire Council will carry out refurbishment works on the Commercial Street area of High Town from early May.

The work is the second phase of a refurbishment project for the city centre that will create a consistent look with the recent refurbishment of Widemarsh Street and High Street. Future phases will include an enhanced walking and cycling environment.

Councillor Barry Durkin, cabinet member highways and transport said

    Quote

“This project is key to the success of the city as a regional shopping destination, with longer term plans to improve Commercial Road and Blueschool Street, it will further enhance the city as an attractive and easily accessible destination for visitors and shoppers.

Hereford has never looked as positive and vibrant as it does today and we need to build on the successes of the last few years and continue to support existing retailers and continue to attract new traders to ensure Hereford is a regional shopping destination of choice.”

The work will be phased to ensure minimal disruption to businesses and shoppers. All access to frontages will be maintained. Work will continue through 2018 with a break for the busy Christmas shopping period. The Commercial Street phase of the scheme will be completed in early 2019.

I bought my first proper bike from Bob back in 1980, a Kawasaki Z650. In the following years and many road and road racing bikes later I would still return to his shop for parts as it was a treasure trove and I always found just what I was looking for. Bob and the shop are Hereford icons and it would be a great shame to see them gone, best of luck to him from down under.

The photo is of a person who travels around the Midland begging , stating that she is a Veteran . If you look closely at the photo, you will see an Army Service number which was issued about 1970 , the photo of the female in Military uniform is of a RAMC Medic who served in the second Gulf War , the Medics courageous action won her the MM . She saved a Tank,Commander whist under sniper fire.

To my knowledge she has been begging in the City twice in the last 12 months , first time was next the McDonalds in Commercial St .At that time a SSAFA Caseworker purchased her a tent and an all weather sleeping bag as a matter of urgency . Further enquiries reveal her story very false.  The second time was when she camped in Eign Gate . After being spoken to she moved on - I am not aware if she has returned .

The RAMC RSM is aware of her and as you can guess he wasn't very pleased to know that somebody was impersonating one of the Regiments Heroes .

Of course she might well be homeless but the way that she went about her business wasn't acceptable .

Glad the I am not the only one who can see this going on.
