Roger - you do love a good whinge.
Will be interesting to see the full proposed details and plans at the public consultation. The amount of scaffolding and empty shops is my biggest concern. Visually it looks crap at the moment and is def suffering from a lack of proper cleaning and maintenance

Agree with Clarkester and Adrian Symonds views here. Let's have a bit of life on our streets!
-
Agree with you Irena.
Weds evening no good for young children. Late night shopping novelty on a weds has long worn off, with many shops routinely open late - certainly on Old Market.
When I have been to this event on a Sunday I remember HighTown being jam packed.

So would I .... But the pigeon problem has to be sorted. They like any sort of tree.
Whatever makeover happens then you will always have the tarmac splodge on that corner ..... It defines Hereford ..... A makeover is only as good as it's weakest link .....
I'd be very surprised if this area was not done at the same time Roger!
Can't say I'm looking forward to visiting the area when the works are being undertaken, nor the shops in the area who will have to carry on trading.

The pictorial vision doesn't incorporate the reality. Which of course is the squeaky Kiddies ride in front of M&S, the Coffee Kart, the Multitude of vehicles and Sky advertising hut, the Shanty Town of tatty gazebo's, the Pork Roll seasonal van .... etc .... All of that open space clutter makes the picture fairly meaningless as it will just be obscured.
I agree with you Roger that the picture doesnt reflect the reality, but a sterile lifeless streetscape like the one depicted here would see zero diversity and vibrancy. I much prefer to see the space used for a variety of events and purposes like it is now.

Not sure what they mean by 'up to £10k'.
Still pass the spot where the murder took place on a daily basis. So very sad.

Yes, I liked the European markets too, though not seen or heard of one for ages.

I went to a meeting about the BID when it was being proposed and we were told only the retailers who sign up to the BID pays the extra money, unless it has changed, before everyone starts critisizing them lets wait a while and see what they have improved. You can't win with some people.
http://herefordbid.co.uk/about.html and http://herefordbid.co.uk/area.html gives more of an insight

The BID is a secondary tax leveled at retailers in the city on top of the already monstrous business rates. The tax was raised and was supposed to increase tourism and business prosperity and so far it's put posters in some empty shop fronts and now appears to be taking on the role of street cleaning. This appears to be an exercise in wasting money. Surely there are much better ways to use the money than to buy a giant hoover for the city - a £10 broom from the J Mart would be just as effective and keep the electric bills down. Just for record a lot of voted against the BID for fear that it would become just an additional fundraiser for the council. Unfortunately this has now become the case. It also appears to be able to expertly waste money just like the council so fantastic.
Can understand frustration from those who voted againt the BID having to still pay towards it, but they are providing additional street cleansing, not a replacement to what BBLP are doing. Of course many will say BBLP are not doing a good enough job and they may well be right.
The BID have only been in place for 6 months, so proably better judge them further into their 5 year term when more of their publicised initiatives will have come into fruition.

I think Hereford Bloom do a great job in organising displays and encouraging businesses and groups to have sort of floral display outside their places.
A gold award is another very good achievement - the challenge is to keep places off the judges route, to join in and also to keep things going for the spring/summer/autumn rather than just a couple of weeks before judging day.

Not sure I'll be getting a copy and certainly not singing on it Denise, unless you fancy a duet

I see FC are releasing a music album next month....

i think that Cllr Chappell could have used his choice of words better - inflammatory rhetoric does nothing to help the image of Cllrs/Council.

Cambo, I would put porn addiction as destructive as gambling, alcohol, drugs, etc, and certainly more prevalent.
It has been proven to rewire neural pathways. I believe it contributes to marital break ups, suicides and too early sexualisation of our children.
With it so easily available nowadays on pc's and smartphones I dread to think what our kids are looking at in the playground.
Whilst some may be less 'harmful, the predisposition in many is that normal stuff soon becomes mudane, driving the user to looking at more extreme and sinister stuff. This may not be the rule for some people, but for others I believe to be true.

Maybe our local library could stock it Cambo? (If it was open!)
Interesting that Rachel Gardner has done a foreward for the book, who I know has written some good resources for young ladies and who is nationally respected.

Looks like a good read Denise - thanks for alerting us to this.
I'm sure your find it riveting bungospoon & your be contributing to the FC coffers too by buying it!…that is if you don't mind wasting £4.99 for the kindle version or if you prefer wasting £7.99 for the paperback version then you can get it on amazon!…Enjoy
Prob opt for the Kindle version to avoid benefiting FC too much.

You are fine Denise, sounds like your sleep pattern is similar to mine, non existant
Comforting to know there are some fellow insomniacs out there.
Have developed it really badly over recent years to te extent it now signifcantly affects my quality of life and sometimes my wanting to even live one.
Have tried all medicatons, CBT, sleep clinic etc to no avail.

Three pound for a pint of carling at the snooker club in Coningsby St where I go.
Apart from that I usually on drink at home thesedays (occasionally!) as it is affordable to do so then.

Good news that this is finally happening. Still wont feel safe going along it when dark, especially late at night.

Quite like the buskers, not so the chuggers and beggars.
I see the Council are also aksing for views on the markets http://www.newsroom.herefordshire.gov.uk/2015/september/local-views-and-new-traders-wanted-for-hereford’s-outdoor-markets.aspx I have to say that the Weds/Sat market is okay, but the last time I attended the Farmers Market it was dismal - only a few traders. I remember when there was a lot more.
Cleaning Road Signs

Watch out Colin. You may be held liable if someone now keeps to the speed limit having been able to read the sign.
Surely BBLP must be responsible for cleaning signs.
Perhaps one of our Cllrs can clarify?
