Colin James
I drove past Symonds Yat Services on my way home from South Wales yesterday afternoon and noticed that the shutters were down and police tape was all around. I assumed there had been some sort of accident but I have just read this article in the HT that there was actually an armed robbery. HOODED robbers – one with a shotgun – have raided the High Noon Service Station at Symonds Yat. The pair struck while staff were preparing to close the service station, demanding money and making off in a vehicle, believed to be a short wheel base four-wheel drive, either light blue or grey in colour. An exact amount of money taken is still to be confirmed. Detectives want to speak to witnesses who were on the A40 at Whitchurch on Tuesday between 9.30pm and 10pm. Anyone with information or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the service station in the past few weeks can call Detective Inspector Richard Rees on 101.
