I'll spell it out for you Roger if you'll bear with me  :Happy_32:

    • Prospective councillor knocks on Roger's door, wanting his vote on May 7th.
    • Roger, being a nice chap, patiently listens to the spiel right through to the end.  The Mormon Church, including candidate's membership / existing financial arrangements are carefully omitted from the spiel.
    • Roger votes for the councillor.
    • Councillor is duly elected.
    • Roger, not being a Mormon, feels cheated because the lovely councillor didn't mention that 10 per cent of his expenses / allowance was going overseas to prop up religious nuts.gives 10%
    • Roger thinks: "If only I'd asked a few questions, I could have exposed this nasty little truth.  I could have voted for somebody else, who was not voluntarily handing recycled council tax money over to far flung whackoes AND who chances are is not chained to a hidden (for the purposes of getting elected) religious calling and may be more honest, open and transparent in his separate day-to-day dealings re: representation of my interests locally."

In what way has Roger been cheated?  The councillor will be paid the same amount of expenses regardless of whether he gives 10% to the Mormons, puts 50% in the collection tray at church on a Sunday, or spends 100% of it on beer on a Friday night.

  2. It was a different story in Herefordshire, 15 or so years ago.

A formidable duo of Janet Atkinson and Eddie Clarke were at the helm...if you had cut either of them in half, like a stick of seaside rock, they would have had "Union" written all the way through them! They were brilliant!

How times change. And not for the better in many instances.

Were these the two in charge when job evaluation took place?  Whoever that was let the bosses have a massive rise and then stabbed the foot soldiers in the back.

  3. Once again Herefordshire will end up employing a contractor for the vast majority of a contract that it didn't select.  It happened with Jarvis who went rapidly down the pan after they were employed; Amey bought them out, they were never originally selected.

I see that the cabinet have expressed concern about the way in which the present contract was procurred:

    http://councillors.herefordshire.gov.uk/documents/s50019575/Cabinet%20Minutes%2012%20June%202014.pdf

""concern was also expressed that the reprocurement of services previously provided by Amey should not be regarded as an achievement due to the manner in which it was managed."

Sold down the river yet again.

  4. Is it just me or is it that every time you decide to pipe up the first thing you do is bash other councillors? I'm pretty sure every post of your's I read starts with "I don't know where XX got that info", "XX is wrong", "XX is lying".

And you think that's acceptable? They work for YOU, YOU are the ones in contract with them, YOU are essentially their boss and it's YOUR job to get answers.

Jesus Christ, Imagine being in a job where you didn't have to answer to your boss or clients.

Get a ******* grip. If you can't do the job for which you've been elected and paid for, leave and let someone who can do the job take over.

Yes indeed.  We are paying these people to do a job and we have elected you to represent us.  Was the officer responsible for the contact present at this interview?

  5. https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/transport-and-highways/maintenance/roads-maintenance-structural-surveys

Herefordshire Council's Highway Maintenance Plan says:

"Unless weather conditions dictate otherwise, rural verges will be cut twice

per year. The first cut will generally be undertaken for completion before
the late May bank holiday. The second cut for completion before the
August bank holiday. Each cut is to be undertaken during a three week
    period."

Their recent statement on savings in the maintenance budget says:

"Rural verge cutting will remain the same. We will continue to keep the
highway safe by cutting the visibility splays, carrying out weed spraying
    and maintaining the trees."

So no more two cuts per annum, just visibility splays now.  This is like George Orwell.
