In a departure from its usual conversational and educational activities, Hereford French Circle is thrilled to be hosting a piano recital by award-winning pianist Emilie Capulet, who has performed on BBC Radio 3, and at international music festivals and concert halls in Europe, the USA, Canada, Latin America and Asia.
The warm and intimate atmosphere of Holy Trinity Church, Hereford will provide the backdrop for a celebration of some of France’s most renowned and beloved composers on Herefordshire Council’s treasured Steinway piano. The afternoon recital will feature the soaring Romantic lyricism of Chopin, the kaleidoscopic musical painting of Debussy’s Préludes and Estampes, and the expressive palette of Ravel’s colourful piano works, alongside works by Henri Tomasi and Erik Satie. The programme will include Chopin’s sparkling Fantaisie-Impromptu and his momentous first Ballade, Debussy’s shimmering visions of the Sunken Cathedral and his vibrant Pour le Piano suite, Ravel’s stunning Alborada del Gracioso and Pavane pour une Infante Défunte as well as Henri Tomasi’s Corsican inspired Tarentelle and Satie’s hypnotic first Gymnopédie.
Entry is free but donations will be welcome. All funds raised will be going to Encore Enterprises, who promote music education throughout the county, organizing music lessons in schools as well as running the Herefordshire Youth Orchestra, Youth Concert Band and Youth Choir. Encore also oversees music projects targeted at those in most need, for instance due to illness, disability, social or rural isolation, or financial hardship.
The evening before the concert Emilie will be giving a talk, in French, about the life and times of Eric Satie hosted by Hereford French Circle, a friendly group of Francophiles who meet regularly throughout the year for French conversation and lectures.
