  1. Below is a photograph of what 400 tyres looks like. This week Llangattock litter pickers were alerted to fly tipping of more than 5 times what's is in this photo. Over 2,000 lorry and car tyres were dumped in a quarry in the Brecon Beacons. The group are leading on and working with the landowner and other organisations to bring about their removal.
  2. Waste found dumped in two locations in and around Bromyard had been taken away from Poundstretcher refurbishment Herefordshire Council has won an Enforcement case against two friends who were found guilty of fly tipping two loads of waste which were found dumped on Bromyard downs and in a layby near to Acton Green crossroads. John Hodgkins (40) of Redstone Lane, Stourport-On-Severn and Isaac Janes (48) of 78 Layman Walk, Stourport-On-Severn both pleaded guilty to two counts of fly tipping at Hereford Magistrates’ Court on 9 March 2021. The pair received fines and costs totalling £1072.00 each. At the hearing, the court heard how in October 2019, Hodgkins and Janes had been paid £400 to take away refurbishment waste from the former Poundstretcher store on Eign Gate, Hereford. The waste was later found dumped in two large piles on Bromyard downs and in a layby just off the Acton Green crossroads. Although no evidence was found in the fly tipping, officers from Herefordshire Council’s Community Protection Team were able to obtain CCTV and ANPR images to trace the offenders. David Hough, Herefordshire Council’s Trading Standards Service Manager, said: The Community Protection Team will investigate unlawful waste disposal and fly tipping cases that are reported via the Herefordshire Council website or by calling 01432 261761.
  3. On 18 September 2020 at Hereford Magistrates Court, Mrs Pearl Smith (51) of Oak Crescent, Clehonger pleaded guilty of failing to transfer her waste to an authorised person and secure the transfer with a written description of the waste. In the case taken by Herefordshire Council’s Community Protection Team, Mrs Smith received a fine of £320, victim surcharge of £32 and a contribution towards costs of £150. In this case, six household bags full of waste and a shopping trolley were found dumped in Newton brook which runs along Waterfield Road in Hereford in March 2019. Evidence found in the bags led officers to Ms Smith who failed to co-operate with the investigation and provide an account of how her waste became fly tipped. At the hearing, Smith accepted that she had failed to transfer the waste to an authorised person and had therefore failed in her Duty of Care.David Hough, Herefordshire Council’s Trading Standards Service Manager, said:
