  1. These are the candidates (no independent)

Jennings Catherine Ruth 11 The Pastures, Lower Bullingham, Hereford, HR2 6EU It's Our County (Herefordshire)

Morris Scott John 51 Princess Avenue, Hereford, HR1 1HJ Labour Party

Price Jamie Owen Richard 7 Priory View, Belmont, Hereford, HR2 7XH Conservative and Unionist Party

Tillett Kevin Paul 20 Villa Street, Hunderton, Hereford, HR2 7AU Liberal Democrats

  2. I spoken to someone who went to Cabinet today.

Apparently not a lot happened as they just wanted to approve the extra spend, although it was said that due to the identified long term savings they would have gone ahead at the higher cost anyway.

The cock up is being assessed by the internal auditors - This is the South West Audit Partnership (which was recommended as the internal auditors by Peter Robinson when he was here and of course which he helped set up when he was in Bristol)

Their report will go to the Audit and Governance Committee in September I think.

I'm told that a couple of Councillors raised concerns about the cost and that the additional work should have been obvious and anticipated but this will be better considered when the audit report is available.

However as you would expect it was - "well let's make sure we learn the lessons and forget it"

Hmmmm! Have we not heard those words before?

  3. There is no doubt that the majority of the employees at the ROF during both World Wars were women. But it is also true that a large number of men also worked there - probably those who were too old for active service.

Whilst the contribution and sacrifices of women should be applauded and never forgotten we should also be honouring all those who worked in the munitions at Rotherwas.

  4. Sorry Chris but if time after time the Head of the Paid Service is overseeing a management structure that makes poor appointments then Councillors can do something. You will know what it is.

Norman and Robinson are just two examples of a long list of poor appointments, but there is also the gravy train of long standing Officers who move around the Council from senior management position to senior management position in the endless restructures, who seem to be somebody's favourite, but may or not be qualified for the job

  5. I do like the way the doubling of the cost of the scheme is referred to in the report as "a number of weaknesses in cost planning for and monitoring of property related capital projects"

Bobby  you are correct - it will be just swept aside and nobody will have to account for this mess

  6. Three tents today - guess , and it's only a guess that our dear friend Bobby 47 has moved in with them , he will act as their advisor on doubt.

Well done Bobby , if you need your tabs or a Carlsberg just let us know

It cannot be B47 - he would never go that close to the Old Market :Cool_32:

  7. So piddled off am I that we religiously pay an arm and leg for the green bags specific to garden rubbish only to see it getting chucked in with the household rubbish and then onto landfill I have now signed up to Biffa for £4.50/month plus an initial payment of £15.00 to get a wheelie bin for garden waste. They then turn this green waste into compost.  Prior to signing up I checked that they are independent of the Council.  Totally off topic sorry.  Why is our Council so lacking?

I do not know your personal circumstances but as you use green bags you seem to have a garden. Do you not have space for a compost bin? This would not only save you the money you are giving Biffa or the Council but would also save you buying compost.

  8. What is it about dog owners in Bartonsham and Hampton Park?

I use Great Western Way very often and despite it being a dog walking area and running through areas often, wrongly, looked down on by those who live north of the river, hardly ever is the dog mess on it - even on the bridges.

And yet those owners in this area cannot be arsed to either get their dog off the bridge before it craps or clear up their mess. It is not as if there is nowhere for their dogs to crap nearby.

Perhaps they are just arrogant imbeciles?

  9. At the same meeting, an application on the other side of the County was approved for a dwelling for a disabled person, contrary to planning policies.

Just a couple of fields away from the Sutton St Nicholas application, permission was granted for a new house a little while ago - contrary to the same planning policies. The applicant was a former Tory councillor's brother.

Let's not forget Cllr Greenow was granted planning permission for a new house in the open countryside a little while ago - with no extenuating circumstances and contrary to planning policies.

It's the C word again - consistency, or lack thereof, one of this Council's many failings.

Oh absolutely you are right but this goes back decades. For example South Herefordshire District Council Councillors were notorious at giving planning permission to family and friends and to anyone with a personal begging case. I doubt you will ever change it.

When these things are done it does nothing to solve the rural housing crisis

  10. http://www.herefordtimes.com/news/15364253.Planning_approval_given_to_convert_offices_into_apartments/?ref=mrb&lp=2

    This refers to Moor House.

Such a shame that permission could not have been granted on the Sutton St Nicholas pa for Claire and Steve Snead who have tried and tried to get planning permission to build the home for their whole family to live in on land owned by them.  See page 6 of the HT I am sure this has been discussed somewhere on HV but cannot find it.

Nice to see the Planning Committee following the advice of their officers and supporting their own planning polices by refusing this application

  11. Traffic once again a nightmare today around noon - it took me 55 minutes to get from Ledbury Road to Grandstand Road (I had a large heavy delivery to make)! The whole city log jammed. I heard on H & W that temporary traffic lights on Belmont Road were causing problems - is that all it takes to grind the City to a halt?! The cost to business must be mind boggling. Yet those in power do nothing and those who pay their wages can do nothing. Honestly, it makes me want to move to the middle of Wales ...

Well of course as you probably know Highways England are a law unto themselves as far as the A49 are concerned.

The Council are trying to do something - build a by-pass. Whether you agree with it or not at least when there are serious or not so serious problems at least some traffic will be able to avoid the city and the reality is that only very few of us will not use our cars

  12. I've been using it for the last two weeks. A short stretch from the Royal Mail site entrance and coming out at Jewson's yard gates. It gets you away from Morrison's car park and the footpath link running around the side of the store. Much better than weaving in and out of moving cars and shoppers.

What? Is that some small item about the link road that is positive  :Winky:

  13. Denise, according to Herefordshire Council news desk, Cllr Johnson as Leader of the council gets £29,692 plus travelling expenses. which would be a vast sum as he doesn't live in Herefordshire.

His home address as listed on the Council website is at WR13 6EP. This might be a Worcester post code but which is an address in Colwall which is in Herefordshire

  14. It was Western Power Distribution in Widemarsh Street repairing a  LV cable fault - found this out on the Council website

I struggle to believe that closure was the problem

More likely it was the usual problem of Hereford drivers unable to cope with rain.

  15. If the no right turn at Edgar Street remains, if you want to go to Holmer Road you can turn right at Widemarsh Street - of course at another set of TWG's hated traffic lights. That said I hear there will continue to be a right turn into Barrs Court Road from Aylestone Hill so you could avoid the new road completely

The one thing that has surprised me is that there will be no right turn into Gibbs & Dandy's timber yard from Widemarsh Street

  16. This should be good news, but given their proven chronic inability to manage costs on any project*, it will end up costing us yet more millions.

*see £1m overspend on Blueschool House, £100k over budget on fees so far on farms disposal, rumoured £10m over budget on link road etc etc.

If there were to be an overspend on any project my view is that to clear this mess up it would be well worth it
