This is been in discussion for sometime so no real surprises here however, the traffic queues along this part of Hereford are constant so we do not envisage high earnings to come from this one...

Has it been installed for other reasons?

Feb 2, 2018 The WeeK:

Police found using speed cameras for non-speeding offences

More than a third of UK forces use the technology to enforce mobile phone and seatbelt laws

Police forces are using mobile speed cameras to hunt drivers who commit non-speeding offences, a study has revealed.

An investigation run by road safety charity IAM RoadSmart found that 16 of the 44 police forces in the UK regularly use speed cameras to catch drivers who fail to wear seatbelts, or who use handheld mobile phones, reports Auto Express.

Forces in Kent, North Yorkshire, North and South Wales, Hampshire, Suffolk and the West Midlands are among the forces named in the report, the magazine says.

Officers sitting in roadside vans equipped with speed cameras recorded more than 8,000 unbelted motorists in 2016, according to The Sun. A further 1,000 drivers were caught using handheld mobiles phones at the wheel.

However, some forces are not using the cameras for non-speeding offences because they are unsure whether the footage will be approved for prosecution by the Home Office, the newspaper says.

IAM RoadSmart chief executive Sarah Sillars says police forces should be allowed to use mobile safety cameras to catch drivers committing a range of offences, in addition to speeding, but only if the practice is well publicised.

“If drivers don’t know about this added enforcement technique then its impact will be reduced,†Sillars says.

But she adds that police should provide “clear and consistent guidelines on what the cameras are being used for†and “how the images are being used as evidenceâ€.

Hello dear I am stuck in traffic in Hereford I will be late getting back home.

It is what it is and you all know what it is. A cash generating machine placed in this particular place for no other reason than to make some money for them to spend.

And once the Safer Roads Partnership meet again at Plough Lane, and they will, they'll be discussing the installation of other cash collecting cameras to be installed across the City that'll all be dressed up in a cleverly spun corporate message, 'we want to keep you safe'.

Course, once some fool pops a blag bin bag over its lens or even paint sprays the accursed thing, we'll all be howling, 'how dare they do this to our speed camera' but quietly thinking, 'shame on me. I'm quite happy to see someone fighting back against the Council Spending Machine!

The Gatso meter speed camera is a rear facing camera and as such can only succesfully obtain a vehicles speed when driving past the Gatso. In other words if a Gatso speed camera is on the opposite side of the road and is pointing towards you it cannot record or catch you speeding. However be sure you're driving towards a Gatso and not the forward facing Truvelo camera as these are designed to work as a motorist drives towards them! It's also worth noting that Gatso's which are installation on a central reservation of traffic island can be turned periodically to target motorists traveling in either direction.

It’s all about terminology.

What sort of camera is it??

Safety.

Designed to put people off to reduce risk of accidents

speed

To enforce the speed limits

Money maker

Make money off people looking at possible dangers on the road instead of  looking at their speedo

IF THIS WAS EVER ABOUT SAFETY. HOW COME NONE ARE BUT IN 20mph zones by schools.

Becuse they won’t make any money.

This looks like one of the new digital cameras, I am not sure if they need a film or they work off wifi perhaps?
