So yesterday i noticed in the HT that there is to be a meeting on the 30th October at the Left Bank regarding the Southern Link Road, chaired by the representative from the Ministry. I mentioned this to a friend of mine last night in passing and he informed me that the head of Tarmac has been out to the local quarries asking if they have the load carrying capacity for the new road, as construction is due to start in March next year. I thought that the Ministry had the final say on the go ahead after it was referred to them? Anyone heard anything else about it?

You are not wrong, complete disregard for the highway code once the test has been passed. Try negotiating yourself past Madley primary school at pick p and drop off times, the standard of "parking" is shocking. Packed all the way up to the junction for Brampton road. Traffic wardens would have a field day (so would the police) with the parking violations "Rule 243 DO NOT stop or park: near a school entrance anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space near the brow of a hill or hump bridge opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles in front of an entrance to a property on a bend where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic."

The weather forecasts that the council receive are way more detailed than what you get after the news or via the Met office website.

So expect an increase in bikes dumped in the river then? :) :) at least they will be able to find them. A lot of these hire bike schemes have fallen flat in other countries due to them being dumped wherever the rider feels is convenient for them, leading to massive costs in recovering them. There was one in New Zealand (i think) that was found in the crater of an extinct volcano....good idea, lots of potential logistical issues though

Wow - that is some big numbers. Any clue as to why we pay Worcestershire so much each time? Is it maintenance payments from when the two counties divorced? :) :)

Does it slide down like a portcullis at night to keep the students in? (Or the locals out :) ) It really is truly a shocking piece of poor taste design - a carbunkle as Prince Charles would probably call it. Is Stevie Wonder now on the planning committee?

It really needs ANPR and CCTV equipment down there i think, will probably be the only way to stop them. Although i suspect they will just find another spot to decimate.

£200k for a 2 bed house?? Seems a bit steep to me for a timber frame rabbit hutch with a window box sized garden.

As I see it, they need to reduce the traffic in the city before they can introduce any sustainable means of transport. The only way to do this is to build a bypass/relief road or whatever it is called. Using the traffic counts from the dft website, nearly 45k vehicles use the Greyfriars bridge daily, if 15% of that is through traffic, then that would be 6750 less cars daily crossing at Asda roundabout - that's a lot of vehicles. This would then open up capacity for improvements in cycle lanes and bus lanes within the city.

The sceptic in me says it has more to do with drivers being distracted with looking through the windows of the posh new flats they built than the actual view. Besides, the traffic is usually stationary or that slow moving you could get out and take a picture at certain times :)

@Cambo - with this council? Think of a number and add 25% to the final cost - should be about right then :) :)

@DILLIGAF - that will be the SLR, rather than the full "bypass" (in the loosest sense of the term) - although I suspect it will form the first part of the route they choose. Give it 20 years, and (if it has been built by then of course) they will be looking to upgrade it to dual carriageway.

We need places like this, unfortunately the funding isn't available for them anymore. My dad will be 85 this year, and needs constant care from my mum (who is 84) - she enquired about care if something happened to her, and she was quoted in the region of £900 per week!!! That is why we have so many problems, the care industry is allowed to charge what they like, effectively bleeding our elderly of all their savings. I know it is a difficult job, surely they don't have to charge as much as they do though? Especially when the actual carers are usually just above minimum wage, once again, the CEO's and board of directors take a big salary for eating biscuits and drinking coffee.

...and how are these people who are going to be living in the middle of the city going to get to work at Rotherwas exactly? By car is suspect, which will mean the whole area (and road) will be at capacity within a couple of years - another £34million wasted.....
