The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, takeaways and food shops.

Yes, twg, you're completely correct!

I don't understand why Wales is ahead of us on this one! There, it is a legal requirement to display your rating, whatever it may be....

Well I have another issue with this because tonight I called into the New Canton House Chinese in Bridge St as I remembered that they happily display their ratings but there is a twist...

  1. New Canton House Bridge Street, Hereford, Rated 2 - Last inspection 21 September 2016

Take a look at the photographs I took this evening, they are still displaying their original rating of 4 from back in 2015, any law against this? This is misleading is it not?

Less than a mile, as it goes!!!

The scores on the doors scheme has really made establishments in Wales up their game, people were literally walking straight past low scoring premises.

I believe it should be made an immediate requirement in England. The scheme is in place, monitored and controlled, the establishments have all been issued with stickers, could be put in place just like that!

The council are required to inspect premises at least every 24 months. Sometimes this slips, due to lack of resources, but they do prioritise the lower rated premises, and will visit them about every 12 to 18 months. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than it used to be. One, or God forbid, zero stars should be avoided at all costs. Remember, this has nothing to do with the quality of the food, only the hygiene surrounding its production! A five star rated premises can still serve very poor food !

A very usual list, thank you. However some of these rating are a year and a half old, some of these places could have deteriorated or improved since

They cannot inspect them every month! I see no reason why they cannot have annual inspections though

Surely IF there is a risk to health the inspection should be much more frequent than annual.

Going on from that perhaps the Council should pass a By Law stating that the Scores on the Doors MUST be stuck on the doors of the premises.

From the BBC website today so hopefully somebody with the relevant powers will take action.

I am surprised that County Council do not pass a Bye Law or similar which states that Food Hygiene scores must be advertised - I am sure that the " experts " will soon tell me why they don't , thank you .

All restaurants and takeaways in England should be made to display their food hygiene scores by law, the Local Government Association (LGA) has said.

The body that represents councils in England says the move should be made as part of the post Brexit legislation.

Outlets are scored zero to five based on factors such as kitchen cleanliness, cooking methods and food management.

The Food Standards Agency, which runs the scheme, said it was reviewing how food businesses were regulated.

The FSA also oversees the rating system in Wales and Northern Ireland, where displaying the scores is compulsory, while in Scotland they must display similar food hygiene information.

In England, food outlets do not have to display the rating.
